Prevention of Falls for Vigorous Elderly People
The ageing of the population and the desire to age at home pose the major challenge of maintaining autonomy in people over 80 years of age and preventing falls, which is one of the first markers of the loss of autonomy. In addition, the repercussions of the deterioration of autonomy also impact the social life of the elderly, who will reduce their physical activities, their outings and gradually isolate themselves for fear of relapse, accelerating the process of loss of autonomy.
Developing a care pathway that integrates advanced practice nurses in primary care trained in geriatrics becomes essential.
The project led by Laure de Decker proposes to evaluate in a global and multidisciplinary way an innovative prevention system, involving an advanced practice nurse working in support of primary care professionals, in its ability to reduce the number of falls and thus delay the deterioration of the autonomy of the elderly.
We anticipate that prevention implemented by advanced practice nurses will reduce the number of falls and the decline to frailty. The results are likely to improve knowledge on the effect of an advanced practice nurse's follow-up of older adults and to optimize the implementation of fall prevention programs in real situations.
