Chaire Aging UP!
By 2040, it is anticipated that 350,000 people will lose their autonomy due to the ageing of the population. In this context, the French policy on ageing well is based on two main objectives: keeping people at home and preventing the loss of autonomy. In the absence of reliable data, our autonomy policies are not sufficiently focused on the expectations of people and those around them.
The objective of the Chaire AgingUP!, held by Prof. Thomas Rapp, is to better understand people's expectations with regard to options for managing loss of autonomy. By combining qualitative and quantitative methods, we identify the preferences of older people and their entourage for the organization of autonomy care, the prevention of loss of autonomy, and its financing.
The AgingUP! surveys aim to identify the trade-offs acceptable to older people and their carers between home care and entry into nursing homes, and preferences with regard to prevention strategies, such as ICOPE (WHO). The data from these surveys make it possible to define a long-term care and prevention offer that meets people's expectations, particularly with regard to factors such as the quality of care, well-being and affordability. The results will help guide public policies towards greater efficiency, and guide investments to increase the value of care.
